Take your daughter out on one-on-one activities

I considered the dates to be appointments on my calendar. However, my daughters treated the time as something to be truly treasured.

One of the best things I did as a dad of three daughters was to take each one on her own special date once a month.

We might have gone to a movie, visited a state park, taken a road trip, grabbed a meal or did something she really wanted to do.

I really got to know each of my daughters very well. I learned what she liked and didn’t like. She shared her dreams and disappointments. She may have asked for advice or given me some.

It was wonderful watching her personality bubble up and we enjoyed some memorable conversations. Of course, every outing involved ice cream or some other snack.

For me, they were fun activities and I enjoyed the time, but I considered them to be appointments on my calendar. However, my daughters treated the time as something to be truly treasured.

When they were in their 20s, I learned that all of my daughters meticulously planned each event and looked forward to their one-on-one time with great anticipation. It was humbling.

I want all fathers to enjoy that same kind of impact with their daughters.

To help, I created a free DODO Dads Guide to 125 One-On-One Activities. It offers suggestions on low-cost, no-cost things fathers can do with their daughters.
