I ran across a story today in Faithpot that broke my heart about the harm a misaligned father can do to his daughter. But, I was immediately encouraged by how other men showed up to fix the damage.
Ivy Jurgensen endured horrific abuse at the hands of her father. It was the type of abuse that sent him to prison for severe crimes against a child.
Because her father, who was supposed to love and protect her, failed so miserably in that area, Ivy grew up distrusting other people who were supposed to protect her. That included the police.
Fortunately, another man stepped in to do the right thing. He was a police officer assigned to work at Ivy’s high school. She eventually learned to trust the officer with her deepest secret, and he initiated a process to remove the violent man from Ivy’s life.
Fast forward several years, and Ivy became a police officer herself working in schools so she could help other children. She later went on to get married.
However, on that day in 2023, 15 of the most important men in her life escorted Ivy down the aisle. They included relatives, coaches and the men who restored justice to her life.
What impacts me the most about this story is that men can still be father figures to children who are not their own. All it takes to have tremendous impact on the life of a child is for a man to take notice, take interest and take action.
Who has God put in your life today for you to serve as a father figure for someone who desperately needs one?
